The two books of memoirs written by Turkow, a well known actor and
writer and prominent member of the Jewish Self-Help Organization and
resistance movement in Warsaw ghetto, are a valuable and well documented
contribution to the history of Warsaw ghetto, the uprising and the life on
“Aryan papers” and in hiding.

The author was 17 years old in 1939 and a member of the Jewish youth
organization of the Bund. She was very active as a liaison for the resistance
movement and visited in this capacity many Jewish camps, hiding places,
guerilla groups, smuggled weapons and money a. s. o., lived in the Warsaw
ghetto and on “Aryan papers” . Her book gives a very lively and minutious
report of her experience.
