The Universal Jewish Encyclopedia
, which has now reached
completion, there appeared four volumes. I t is hoped that the
tenth and last volume will be published before long. An important
bibliographical reference work is
The Jew in English Drama
, an
annotated bibliography, compiled by Edward D. Coleman with
a preface by Joshua Bloch. Published by The New York Public
Library, it forms a companion volume to the compiler’s previously
published work on
The Bible in English Drama.
This rapid survey of Jewish books in English published in
America during the past year (July 1, 1942-June 30, 1943) is
obviously not exhaustive of the output of printed material per-
taining to Jews and Judaism. With but few exceptions only such
publications as have an exclusively Jewish appeal and are readily
obtainable in the book market have been included. In a large
measure these books surveyed meet the needs and suit the literary
taste of Jewish readers in this country; they certainly reflect the
current interest in matters affecting Jewish life and in the relation
of the Jewish people to the material and cultural welfare of their
non-Jewish neighbors.
