pool, England, March 3, 1863.

Jewish communal leader in
Liverpool, he prepared English editions of French Jewish cate-
chisms by Cahen and Ben G. Levi. On his initiative, English
sermons were preached for the first time in England in 1827
in the Ashkenazic synagogues, which heretofore had had sermons
in German or Yiddish only.
