plays into Hebrew as well as Cervantes’
Don Quixote.

September 17, 1896. For many years professor of Bible at the
Hebrew Union College in Cincinatti, he has concentrated his
studies on the Prophets, devoting two of his books to Isaiah and

active Zionist, he is mainly remembered for his two-volume his-
tory of Zionism in German.

Raussnitz, Moravia, in 1843, died in Frankfort on the Main,
February 5, 1891. A Liberal rabbi in Frankfort, he edited, pub-
lished and almost single-handedly wrote 10 volumes of a scholarly
yearbook in which he ranged over the whole field of Jewish lore
and learning and also contributed many scholarly reviews.

appointment from the King of Spain, he translated a Hebrew

Austria-Hungary, in 1810, died in Vienna, August 3, 1891. He
translated Rashi’s commentary on the Torah into German and
also wrote several works on Solomon Ibn Gabirol, the medieval
Hebrew poet and philosopher.

Russia, May 9, 1866, died in New York in 1892. An anarchist, he
contributed to Yiddish periodicals. His revolutionary songs were
especially popular among the Jewish workers.
