Jewish Book Month programs were scheduled by YM-YWHAs
and Jewish Community Centers, synagogues, public and univer-
sity libraries, Hillel Foundations, Jewish schools, bureaus of
Jewish education, local chapters of national Jewish organiza-
tions, and Jewish military chaplains and JWB Armed Forces
and Veterans Services Committees. To help plan Jewish Book
Month observances, the Council made available an array of
program resources which included manuals, book lists, book
marks and posters.
Jewish Book Annual
The value of the
Jewish Book Annual
as a permanent
repository of Jewish literary creativity has by this time been
well established. In recent years the Council has enjoyed the
support of a number of organizations and of many individuals
who have assured its financial stability. Particular mention
should be made of the Lucius N. Littauer Foundation and its
president, Mr. Harry Starr, Dr. Mortimer J. Cohen and Dr. A.
Alan Steinbach, both past presidents of the Council and the
current president, Dr. Gilbert Klaperman. A special 25th an-
niversary volume is now being planned for publication in 1967.
In Jewish Bookland
To test the usefulness of
In Jewish Bookland,
a sampling of
the mailing list, including overseas individuals and libraries,
was surveyed. The response indicated an overwhelming favorable
opinion of this periodical which is published as a supplement
to the J
WB Circle.
The members of the Editorial Board of
In Jewish Bookland
are: Dr. Alexander Alan Steinbach, Editor;
Philip Goodman, Associate Editor; Lionel Koppman, Managing
Editor; Dr. Mortimer J. Cohen and Dr. Solomon Grayzel, Con-
sultants; Dr. Jacob Kabakoff, Hebrew Books; Dr. Sol Liptzin,
Yiddish Books; Charles Angoff, Bernard J. Bamberger, Morris
Epstein.
Program Materials and Booklists
The continuing demand for program materials, specialized
bibliographies and booklists and library aids of the Council is
further evidence of the growing interest in Jewish book pro-
gramming and in the development of Jewish libraries.
