to read the books written mostly by simple folk who led a simple

Finally, a few words are in order about Dr. N.M. Gelber who
died in Jerusalem, September 23, 1966, at the age of 75. Dr.
Gelber was a historian of note who wrote extensively about the
Jewish past in Poland. He wrote his doctoral dissertation at the
University of Vienna about the Jewish participation in the Polish
Uprising of 1863. His last years were devoted to recording the
history of the Jews in the various towns in Poland. His studies
were penned exclusively for the Yizkor books, of which about
twenty-five were enriched by his excellent monographs.
