What does the Holy One do? He brings out His purple cloak
with names of martyrs and renders His verdict, as it is written:
“He will cast His judgment on the nations.” (Midrash Tehillim
9, Yalkut Shimeoni 247)

Moses, our Master, peace be upon him, recorded all the wan-
derings of the Children of Israel, and from all this the Torah
was fashioned. In our time it is the prophet Elijah who inscribes
the roamings and vicissitudes of each and every Israelite. When
the Messiah comes—may it be speedily in our day—Elijah’s rec-
ords will also be embodied in a book from which all men will
glean knowledge. (Ohel Yitshak)

Said the gaon Rabbi Abraham of Sachatzov (19th-20th cen-
tury), of blessed memory: There isn’t a person to whom a miracle
does not occur every moment, but he is not aware of it. Rabbi
Abraham also said in the name of his father-in-law, of blessed
memory: There is a book of remembrance in which every miracle
is recorded, and in the distant future it will be made clear to
each person what miracles happened to him. (Siah Sarfe Kodesh)
