To date 226 libraries have received citations from the Council.
American Library Association Exhibit
The Jewish Book Council has again participated in the mam-
moth exhibit at the annual conference of the American Library
Association held in Detroit from June 28 to July 2, 1970. This
year the Council arranged its exhibit booth in cooperation with
the Association of Jewish Libraries. Mrs. R. Kellman, librarian
of the Detroit Jewish Community Center, was chairman of the
local committee.
Annual Meeting
The Council’s annual meeting took place on Sunday, May 17,
1970, at the Park Avenue Synagogue in New York City. Dr. Judah
Nadich, Council president, chaired the meeting. Citations of
merit were presented to eleven libraries by Dr. Menahem Schmel-
zer, chairman of the Council’s Library Committee.
Mr. Herbert Millman, the recently appointed Executive Vice-
President of the National Jewish Welfare Board, extended warm
greetings in the name of our sponsor.
Dr. Gilbert Klaperman, chairman of the Nominations Com-
mittee, presented the slate of new officers and Executive Board
members. Dr. Judah Nadich was reelected for a second two-year
term and the following new officers were elected: Vice-Presidents:
Dr. Eugene B. Borowitz, Mrs. Frank Cohen, Dr. Alter F. Landes-
man, Herbert Millman and Leon Rubinstein; Secretary: Dr.
Jacob Kabakoff; Treasurer: Dr. Emil Lehman. The following were
elected as new members of the Executive Board: Dr. Charles
Berlin, Dr. Robert Gordis, Leo Guzik, Mrs. Benjamin Levitt,
Yehuda Rosenman, Mrs. Murray Sarlin, and Mrs. Victor Wouk.
On the occasion of his departure to settle in Israel, Dr. Yudel
Mark was presented with a special citation in appreciation of his
faithful service to the Jewish Book Council. The citation read in
