having reprinted those that were out of print, the distribution of
recently published volumes is still handled by the Council itself.
Dr. A. Alan Steinbach has served with distinction as the dedi-
cated editor of the
Annua l
for the past seventeen volumes. Philip
Goodman has continued as the managing editor, and the asso-
ciate editors of the past volume were Hyman B. Bass, Dr. Mena-
hem G. Glenn, Dr. Jacob Kabakoff and Dr. I. Edward Kiev.
For making possible the publication of the
Jewish Book An-
we are particularly indebted to Dr. Judah Nadich, Dr.
Gilbert Klaperman and Dr. A. Alan Steinbach, all past presidents
of the Council. The assistance of the Lucius N. Littauer Foun-
dation through its president, Harry Starr, and the Israel Matz
Foundation, through its president, Dr. I. Edward Kiev, has been
a major factor in the continued publication of this permanent
record of American Jewish literary creativity.
The major and most widely disseminated publication of the
Council is
Jewish Bookland,
of which seven issues including two
double ones appeared during the past year. This periodical has
enjoyed the cooperation of scores of reviewers who are outstand-
ing specialists in their particular fields to whom we are most
The editor of
Jewish Bookland
since 1962 is Dr. A. Alan Stein-
bach. Philip Goodman is associate editor and Lionel Koppman
is managing editor. The members of the Editorial Advisory Com-
mittee are Dr. Charles Angoff, Dr. Bernard J. Bamberger, Dr.
Morris Epstein, Dr. Solomon Grayzel, Dr. Jacob Kabakoff and
Dr. Sol Liptzin.
