TH E WORLD OF JEW ISH BOOKS
“The World of Jewish Books,” a radio discussion series pro
duced by the Jewish Book Council, was broadcast over station
WEVD (1330 AM; 97.9 FM) on alternate Wednesday evenings
at 9 o’clock beginning November 14, 1973 to May 15, 1974. The
series is designed to give authors of current books of Jewish in
terest an opportunity to talk about their work. The following
authors and discussion leaders were heard:
November 14, 1973: Dr. Eugene B. Borowitz, editor of the
journal
Sh’ma,
and president of JW B ’s Jewish Book Council,
discussed his latest book,
The Mask Jews Wear: On the Self-
Deceptions of American Jewry
(Simon 8c Schuster) with Rabbi
Mark S. Golub, assistant editor of
Sh’ma.
November 28: Aharon Megged, Israeli novelist and play
wright, talked about his writings with Dr. Abraham P. Gannes,
director of the Department of Education and Culture of the
World Zionist Organization.
December 12: Rabbi Herbert Tarr, author of the best sellers
Heaven Help Us, The Conversion of Chaplain Cohen,
and
A
Time for Loving,
conversed on his books with Dr. Eugene B.
Borowitz.
December 26: Dr. Joachim Prinz, author of
The Secret Jews:
The Story of the Marranos
(Random House), discussed his his
torical work with Dr. Martin A. Cohen, professor of Jewish his
tory at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.
January 9, 1974: Robert Kotlowitz, vice-president of program
ming for WNET Channel 13, and author of the National Jew
ish Book Award winner for fiction,
Somewhere Else
(Charter
house), discussed his novel with Rabbi Herbert Tarr.
January 23: Yuri Suhl dialogued about his latest novel,
Uncle
