twenty-three years ago a total of 270 have been granted. At the
annual ceremony of the National Jewish Book Awards on May
5, 1974, citations of merit were presented by Dr. Menahem
Schmelzer, secretary of the Jewish Book Council and librarian
of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, to the follow­
