70th birthday. Born in Seidenberg, Germany, Sep­
tember 29, 1905. As professor of biblical archeology at the Hebrew
University, he participated in several excavations in Palestine, most
recently in the Old City of Jerusalem. With Yigael Yadin he pub­
lished the
Genesis Apocryphon,
a part of the Dead Sea Scrolls,
with English translation. His thesis dealt with the ancient monu­
ments in the Kidron Valley.

70th birthday. Born in Chicago, August 12, 1905.
In Palestine since 1929, he has been an educator there ever since
his arrival and now serves as supervisor of English studies in the
Israeli Ministry of Education. He has also published several vol­
umes of original poetry in Hebrew in addition to Hebrew transla­
tions of anthologies of English and American poetry. He also
translated popular English and American novels into Hebrew,
