Over twenty years ago the Council instituted the presentation
of citations to libraries that met specific criteria. Since then
these citations have been presented to 289 libraries in the
United States and Canada which fulfilled these requirements:
the employment of a full- or part-time librarian; a fixed annual
budget; a minimum of 1,000 books of Jewish interest, with the
acquisition of 100 additional books each year; a catalogue
accessible to readers; adequate library quarters; the conduct of
Jewish Book Month activities and other programs to enrich
Jewish cultural life. The Council thus encourages organizations
to strive to meet the minimum standards outlined above. In the
past year citations were presented to the following libraries:
