Jewish Book Awards of the JWB Jewish Book Council which
were held on June 4, 1978, at the Park Avenue Synagogue,
New York City.

SCHW ARTZ AW A RD
The judges for the Charles and Bertie G. Schwartz Award for
a Jewish juvenile were Miriam Chaikin, of Holt, Rinehart

Winston, Fabio Coen, of Pantheon, and Libby Klaperman,
noted juvenile author.
They unanimously chose to make this award to Milton
Meltzer for his volume,
N ever to Forget: The Jews of the Holo-
caust,
published by Harper & Row. Mr. William C. Morris of
Harper
8c
Row publishers was present to accept a citation for
having published a National Jewish Book Award winner.
Milton Meltzer is the author of more than 30 distinguished
books for young people. He was born in Worcester, Mass., and
began his writing career as a political journalist for newspapers
and magazines.
His volume
N ever to Forget
was among the New York Times
Book Review’s “Outstanding Books of the Year” as well as an
Honor Book of the Boston Globe/Horn Book Children’s Book
Award. It depicts the history of the Holocaust in an intensely
human and moving style suitable for children.
The award was presented by Ernest S. Schwartz, newly
elected treasurer of the Jewish Book Council, on behalf of the
children of Charles and Bertie G. Schwartz.
W ILLIAM AND JANICE EPSTEIN AW ARD
The William and Janice Epstein National Jewish Book Award
is sponsored annually by William Epstein, a vice-president of
the Council and president of Bookazine.
