Hebrew publications, necessary for reference work in Israeli
public libraries and school libraries. Recent bibliographies of
note are the second volume of
The State of Israel,
by Assia
Neuberg, which lists books and pamphlets in all languages about
the State published during the years 1969-1975;
The United
States of America: An Annotated Bibl iography of Publicat ions
in Hebrew,
by Libby Kahane, issued on the occasion of the
Bicentennial; and a second, enlarged edition of an annotated
bibliography of books and articles in Hebrew about children’s
literature by Menahem Regev, which is in press. The Center has
joined forces with the Tel-Aviv University and the Israel Author’s
Association to publish a planned series of bibliographies of and
about prominent Hebrew authors. Last, bu t not least, the Center
has undertaken to contribute towards a current
Readers’ Guide
to Hebrew Periodical Literature,
prepared by the Haifa Univer-
sity Library.
L IBRARY FURNISHINGS AND EQU IPMENT
On the initiative of the Center, two leading architects and
interior designers have designed library furnishings to meet
the needs of Israeli libraries. A catalog has been published and
orders are accepted by the Center which supervises their execu-
tion by carpentry firms. Other equipment and material supplied
directly by the Center or under its supervision range from
various standard cards and forms to office equipment, repro-
graphic machines, audio-visual aids, and from time to time,
mobile library units.
OTHER SERVICES
T he Center supplies expert advisers (senior librarians) for
new libraries. I t also aids libraries in providing extension ser-
vices by supplying lists of authors or lecturers who are willing
to appear before audiences of children or adults in the libraries,
and by taking care of the remuneration for the library. In the
planning stage is the provision of preventive care against book-
worms and other biological damage to book collections.
The Center has also been entrusted by the Department of
Culture and Arts of the Ministry of Education and Culture to
carry out the administrative end of the following projects, all
