helping promote the various activities of the Book Council.
Tribute was paid by Dr. Jacob Kabakoff to the memory of Dr.
A. Alan Steinbach, past president of the Jewish Book Council and
editor for many years of the
Jewish Book Annual
and
Jewish Book-
land.
Also eulogized was Dr. Charles Angoff, a member of the
Executive Board of the Council who served on both the editorial
advisory boards of
Jewish Books in Review
and the
Jewish Book
Annual.
Greetings were conveyed by letter from Rabbi Judah Nadich of
the Park Avenue Synagogue, a former president of the Council.
Greetings were also presented by Mrs. Ella Berman, representing
her husband Gerrard Berman, a member of the JWB Board of
Directors.
Citations were presented to the publishers of the award win­
ning books by William Epstein, chairman of the Executive Board
and chairman of the Awards Committee. The presentations to
the award-winning authors are described in the special article
which follows.
The book awards ceremony received much publicity. Many of
the publishers of the award winning books attended and a num­
ber placed advertisements in the New York Times pertaining to
the awards.
LIBRARY CITATIONS
As part of the book awards ceremony, library citations were
presented by the chairman o f the Library Committee, Dr.
Leonard Gold, chief, Jewish Division, New York Public Library.
Serving with Dr. Gold on the committee were: Samuel M. Aksler,
Abraham Berger, Deborah Brodie, Dr. Isidore S. Meyer and
Philip E. Miller.
