cator, rabbi and scholar, who taught countless students
and seekers after knoivledge to revere Jewish scholarship
and the Jewish book.
Sidney B. H oen ig ’s optim ism , humanity and love of
learning permeated all his activities and relationships.
T o the Jewish Book Council and its projects he brought
a deep sense of comm itment which earned him the respect
and adm iration of his colleagues and friends. H is un­
tir ing efforts to disseminate Jewish letters were part of
his wider vision of a v ital American Judaism that was
strongly rooted in the sources of Jewish faith and
creativity.
The warmth of Dr. H oen ig ’s personality and his un­
swerving devotion to the Jewish book w ill continue to
inspire all those who labor fo r the perpetuation of
Jewish cu ltural values.
