100th anniversary of birth. Born in Vidzy, near Vilna,
July 7, 1882, died in Jerusalem in 1946. Settling in Jerusalem in
1904, he taught in various schools before devoting full time to the
zoology of Palestine and its surroundings for the rest of his life. He
undertook zoological explorations throughout the Near East and
headed the Zoological Museum at the Hebrew University, where he
also became the teacher to many Israelis in this field. His pioneer
studies in zoology were published in various monographs in He­
brew.
