JEWISH BOOK ANNUAL
56
H. Epstein, Israel Gerstein, Robert Gordis, Simon Greenberg,
Herman Hailperin, Louis Hammer, Leon Harrison, Abraham M.
Heller, Jacob Katz, Isaac Klein, Charles Kahane, David de Sola
Pool, Alex A. Steinbach, Leon Stitskin and Israel H. Weisfeld.
In addition, the annual collections of sermons published by the
Tract Commission of the Central Conference of American Rabbis
and the Rabbinical Council of America contain many excellent
homilies.
Whether the ascendancy of the sermon augurs well or ill for
the future of Judaism in this country may be debatable; the fact
of its steady ascendancy is decidedly not debatable. The sermon
has become, and is seemingly destined to continue as the most
significant and potent technique within the American Synagogue
for the spiritual education and stimulation of the American Jew.
