STARKMAN ---- AMONG THE RECENT YIDDISH BOOKS

Biography and Memoirs:
L. Farem’s biography of Franklin D.
Roosevelt
Shining Lights
the childhood memoirs of Bella Chagall,
recently deceased wife of the great artist Marc Chagall, Nahman
Mamzil’s
I . L. Peretz
,
Living and Creating
, which is a sort of accom-
paniment to the author’s collection of I. L. Peretz’s
Letters and
Speeches.
An important contribution to the Yiddish essay is
L. Shapiro’s
The Writer Goes to Cheder.
The American Yiddish press gained much from the 75th jubilee
book issued by the I. L. Peretz Writers Association. The Dr.
Shiblovsky People’s Committee began to publish a new edition
of his works. A beginning was made by the book
Jew and World.
Amongst the books which recently arrived from neighboring
Canada one should mention: I. I. Segal’s poetic work,
Songs in
Life
, Melech Ravitch’s literary memoirs,
My Lexicon
; and N. I.
Gottlieb’s collection of essays,
Soviet Writers.
Next year we hope to be in the position to give a review of
Yiddish book production in Europe and in all Jewish centers on
the American continent.
