literary ou tpu t in America, England and Israel. T h e listings o f
English, Hebrew and Yiddish books by ou r loyal b ib liographers
cover generally the period between April 15, 1981, and April 15,
1982.
In commemoration o f the 40th anniversary o f the Book C oun ­
cil and its Annual, Philip E. Miller has contributed an historical
survey incorporating his reflections on the endu r ing contribu­
tions o f these two undertak ings. Th e report o f the activities o f the
Council by Ruth S. Frank , director, brings to ou r attention a
number o f new developments in its p rogram . She has also coor­
dinated the work o f the ju d g e s for the 1982 National Jew ish Book
Awards, whose choices have been listed accord ing to categories.
