NAT IONAL JEW ISH BOOK AWARDS CEREMONY
Dr. Robert Gordis, president of the Council, presided at the
Awards ceremony held at Central Synagogue Community House
in New York City on May 2,1982. Special citations of achievement
were awarded to mark two landmark events in publishing. The
Jewish Publication Society was cited for the completion of its new
translation of the Bible, completed in 1982. The Union of Ameri­
can Hebrew Congregations was cited for its publication of
The
Torah: A Modern Commentary.
Representatives of both organiza­
tions were present to receive these citations. For the first time this
year the Award-winning books were sold at the reception and
autographed by the authors.
L IBRARY CITATIONS
More than 250 libraries have been cited by the Council since
1948. At the Awards ceremony, Dr. Leonard Gold presented
citations to the following libraries which met the criteria of the
JWB Jewish Book Council:
