serves as an introduction to the sociology of Yiddish. Drawing
upon a wealth of scholarly and popular sources (about half of
them written in Yiddish), it describes the role of Yiddish in Jewish
life in Eastern Europe, the United States and Israel. There were
no other nominees for the award.
