translation were published worldwide between 1965 and 1981,
compared with only 130 in the preceding decade, 1955-65. In the
years 1965-74, 250 books in translation were published, whereas
in 1975-81 — a mere six years — as many as 215 appeared .
Accordingly, we feel justified in stating tha t the intensive efforts
made by the Institute have contributed in great measure to the
marked increase in publications o f Hebrew litera tu re abroad.
Still ano ther activity which we deem valuable, is the promotion
o f contacts with Hebrew book lovers all over the world. We do all
we can to answer requests for information, supply material, and
lend assistance on any subject within ou r sphere o f interest. For
that, af te r all, is ou r main concern: to foster the special ties
between the Hebrew writer, the foreign publisher, and the read ­
ing public wherever it may be.
