b ra ry has ab o u t 90 MSS, an d the B e th Din an d B e th H am id ra sh
L ib ra ry in L ond o n ove r 150 MSS. T h e J o h n Rylands Un ivers ity
L ib ra ry in M anche s te r inc ludes ab o u t 400 H eb rew MSS, 350
o f th em d e r iv ing from th e G as te r collection . Few o f th e G a s te r
MSS a re very an c ien t an d m any a re late copies o f o th e r MSS.

collection also in c lud ed a n um b e r o f S am a r itan MSS, m ak ing
th e Rylands L ib ra ry one o f th e m ost valuab le sou rces fo r the
study o f the w ritings o f this an c ien t sect. T h e Leeds Un iversity
L ib ra ry p u rch a sed the MSS fo rm e r ly b e long ing to Cecil Ro th .

th e Alliance Israe lite Un iverselle in Paris has ove r 300 MSS,
