JEWISH BOOK ANNUAL
CH ILDREN 'S WR ITING CONTEST
The Jewish Book Council sponsored a writing contest in co
operation with
Shofar
magazine for children in grades one
through eight. The children were asked to write essays on the
following topics:
1. Have you ever read a Jewish book that transported you
to a new world of feelings?
2. Have any of these books changed the way you feel about
being Jewish?
The essays received by the Council were judged by Ellen Cole,
librarian at the Levine Library, Temple Isaiah, in Los Angeles,
CA and Beverly Newman, librarian at the Temple Congregation
B’nai Jehudah, Kansas City, MO. The winning essays were pub
lished both in the Council’s quarterly publication
Jewish Book
World
and in
Shofar
magazine.
